THE

TH SUNDAY ORDINARY TIME: THE PASSIONIST PERSPECTIVE
.

First Reading: Eze 2: 2-5

Second Reading: 2 Cor 12: 7-10

Gospel: Mark 6: 1-6

THE
POWER OF THE WORD OF GOD

In
the first reading
, we meet the call of Prophet Ezekiel. God sends him to go and
preach the word to a stubborn people. He excuses himself to for the mission of
God. People do not hear him. Now God is aware about this, and so God assures
him of his support. God was going to give him words. You are going to preach my
words, not yours. As a preacher there is a lot of rejection, so God says
whether they hear or they don’t hear, do your work. Therefore, a preacher must
always do his work.

In the second reading to the Corinthians, Paul also faces the same problem like
Ezekiel. He preaches to the people who do not hear, Paul even regrets it. He
says that God gave him a very high responsibility. He says that for him not to
feel elevated, God has given him a responsibility that makes him humble. This
responsibility is too difficult. So, he has realized that it is like a thorn on
his flesh. He has faced abuses, and all forms of rejection because of the Power
of the Word of God. So, Paul, just like Ezekiel, feels like he wants to give up
on God’s mission, but God comes at the end and promises him protection; by
assuring him that His Grace is sufficient to help Paul accomplish the mission
ahead. Therefore, always when we are accomplishing the mission of God what will
make us reach the end goal of it, is the assurance in the Powerful word of God,
because the grace of God shall be sufficient will enable us.

In
the Gospel
, we meet another rejection to Jesus, we know his family. They know
his brothers and his sisters. They ask Jesus where he got all the wisdom he had.
The power of the word of God does change all things to the better. The
preachers who stand at the pulpits preaching the word of God are to do so courageously
whether the people hear or do not, for it is meant to accomplish what it was
destined to
